Meditation FAQs

What is Meditation?

Meditation is an age-old practice to clear, calm and focus the mind and today it’s often used to improve one’s ‘mindfulness’. It’s a very individual practice.

The idea is to be in an environment conducive to coaxing your mind into staying present, in the present moment. No wandering into the past and past thoughts and your memory banks. And no wondering about what’ll happen in the future. Limit your thoughts to present and being present.

You hold your mind in the present space for as long as possible. When you start it may be for a minute or few. Over time with continued practice, you can meditate for longer periods.

It may be that in focussing your mind you just fall asleep, and that’s okay. There’s no right or wrong in meditation. You’ll feel your own way with it

Meditations can be done in silence, guided by someone’s voice, or along with music.

Usually you set yourself up in a comfortable seated or lying position. Walking in nature meditations are also popular.

There are many tips to help you stay present, like observing and following your breath or listening to someone guide you through a meditation practice from start to finish.

In my 5-Week Meditation Course, we use seated guided meditations, to allow everyone to learn and experience for themselves the benefits of a meditation practice.

You’ll be part of a small group who listen to me guide you through a meditation. The group shares experiences and grow with each exercise. Helping each individual increase their ability to focus and trust themselves as an intuitive person. Each meditation class runs for 1 hour.

How do I Prepare for a Meditation Class?

Here’s some info that will help you to prepare.

Before

  • If it’s your first time meditating, give some thought to what you’ll be comfortable wearing to sit in for 1 hour

On Day of Meditation Class

  • Be ready 5 minutes prior to scheduled class time

  • Wear comfortable clothing to sit in

  • Allow time after your 1-hour class to assimilate the new information you’ll receive, before heading back in to your normal life routine

  • Have a notebook and pen handy to capture thoughts.

What Happens in a Meditation Class?

In a Meditation Class, you’ll be part of a small group. You’ll sit in your own space for up to 1 hour. Even though my classes are in small groups, the practice itself is very individual to you.

First I'll walk you through the type of meditation I'll be leading you through. Setting outcomes for each meditation as we grow and learn together.

Then as the leader, I'll guide you with words and periods of silence through the meditation.

Each meditation experienced will be discussed and then built on with another meditation. Giving individual guidance as to how to achieve individual and group focus and connecting to your own intuition. Developing the steps to find and achieve greater mental clarity and emotional calmness.

What Will I Feel Like After A Meditation Class?

It’s a very individual thing, and each time will likely be different.

Some participants experience immediate relief from mental and physical stress. They’ll be calmer as they’ve triggered the brain relaxation response.

Others experience joy and happiness, and others feel tired because they’ve slowed down. Some realise just how hard it is to calm their mind.

Regardless of your first time experience, stick with it. It’s well known to help you in mind, body and spirit if you can. Most people who’ve experienced success in their lives, attribute it to meditating daily.
